Wine & Soul Douro Quinta da Manoella VV Tinto 2016
The 2016 Quinta da Manoella Vinhas Velhas was aged for 20 months in 70% used French oak and comes in at 14% alcohol. This was a tank sample when originally seen. It's now in the USA. This 2016 does not have a lot of flesh or sweetness. It's stern and serious. It's earthy and stony, a wine that many would describe as having minerality as a nuance. It has the potential for impressive complexity, but that may be a decade off. Still undeveloped, this really needs more cellar time. The tannins are notable, but not too hard. You could approach it now with some aeration, but that would frankly be a mistake. This isn't close to showing everything it has. Indeed, it may have closed down a bit since I first saw it. Come back around 2023-2026 for better results. This still has considerable potential for improvement in the cellar.
