Poggio San Polo Brunello di Montalcino

Intense ruby red with garnet hues, transparent and glossy. The bouquet exhibits typical aromas of violets and small red berries.
Subtle nuances of forest undergrowth, aromatic wood, a touch of vanilla and jammy mixed fruit then give way to subtle hints of coffee. This Brunello is intense, persistent, broad, and heady. Full-bodied and warm on the palate, with a densely-woven texture and robust body, it has a persistent finish with well-rounded tannins. The particular features of the terroir at San Polo produce a Brunello with a capacity for lengthy aging, while patient cellaring enhances the wine during aging in the bottle.

The potential of our terroirs means that the Sangiovese varietal is always at the forefront of the pursuit of quality beyond compromise. The result is a range of excellent wines that express 100% Tuscan personality.

Our Brunello from San Polo has a long aging potential and can further improve with extended bottle aging. This is due both to the characteristics of the soils on which the grapes are grown - the calcareous content provides ideal conditions for Sangiovese - and the position of the vineyards on the beautiful hills at San Polo.

An unusually warm winter encouraged early budding with a consequent high risk of frost damage. During spring, rain and
relatively high temperatures seemed to provide ideal conditions for the proliferation of the spores that cause downy mildew. Rainfall
continued until the beginning of September. The lack of light slowed the ripening process, canceling out, a day on day, the phenological properties accumulated during May. Excellent exposure and constant breezes enabled the grapes to reach harvest time in good health and with ideal ripeness, giving rise to wines with distinct personality and elegance.

The elegance and pleasant personality of this wine enables it to pair exceptionally well with highly-structured cuisines such as red meats and game, as well as with mushrooms and truffles. It is ideal with mature cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Tuscan pecorino.
