Marquis De Belefont Saint-Emilion 2015
90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc
An elegant, silky wine with plenty of fresh plummy merlot fruit with additional notes of red and black berries, supported by fine tannins with super length of flavour.
The ‘Bellefont’ vineyard enjoys an ideal position on the southern slopes of Saint-Emilion and was created by Count Louis-François de Belcier at the end of the 18th century. It lies alongside Châteaux Pavie, Larcis Ducasse and Tertre Roteboeuf. Its name means ‘Beautiful Fountain’ and is derived from the many springs on this clay-limestone hillside. Deep ruby colour, with ripe fruit on the nose and a mellow, lightly tannic structure with spicy notes. A well-balanced wine with a seductive finish.
Wine Advocate 92 - The wine offers up notes of jammy black cherries, black currants, licorice, camphor, underbrush and some subtle vanillin. The wine is full-bodied, voluptuously textured and rich, with good acidity, surprising freshness and laser-like definition given its ampleness and length. It can be drunk early on for its beautiful fruit, but look for this wine to hit its stride in 5-7 years and last for two decades.
