Littorai Les Larmes Pinot Noir 2018
This is a blend of the finest terroirs from the Anderson Valley, Savoy, Wendling and other top locations come in here. Loamy and clayey soils, sometimes also volcanic and rocky. Organic and biodynamic management. The expansion takes place in French barriques for less than a year with 10% new wood. A cooler side valley north of Sonoma. The region is super trendy and sought after, here in the foreshore of Mendocino the new Fine Wine and Fine Dine scene in California is emerging and many top winemakers are trying to get plots here. Ted Lemon was one of the first here and has top locations. Of course, in organic and biodynamic management. Everything is fermented spontaneously in open wooden cuves, about a third of a cent. Then a short expansion in Burgundian style for 10 in French barriques, 15% new wood. The Pinot Noir from the Anderson Valley appears somewhat darker, more covered, more berry than the radiant-brilliant red-fruity Sonoma Pinots. High density suggestive, but light-footed, without heaviness or over-concentration with just 12.8% alcohol, nevertheless intense and clear as a bell in the aromatics. A balancing act for which Ted Lemon is particularly special - balance is his profession! He deliberately only looks for steep, cool terroirs with marginal ripening conditions. We have blueberry, more black than red cherry, some fig and cassis, sloe, a little pepper and orange zest. But everything is just fine, worn and very delicate, totally transparent and elegantly polished. Wow then a juicy attack on the palate, here now also red-fruity, currant, sour cherry, lively and energetic with a brilliant, fine-fruity play. The tannins are more gripping and structured in the end than in Sonoma. But also extremely fine-grained and velvety, very elegant, wonderful texture on the palate. Intense aftertaste with dark berry fruit and racy cherry with prancing acid traces and a wonderful buoyancy and a lightness that always surrounds Ted Lemons wines and gives them charm as well as extreme drinking pleasure and delicacy. This is extremely accessible, velvety-soft Burgundy at its finest. This is New California, cool and polished, yet engaging and wonderfully aromatic.
