Gross Iglič Furmint 2016
This Furmint grows about 60 kilometers south of Ratsch on the Slovenian side of Styria. The Furmint vines stand on the steep terraces of the Gorca location with sloping clay marl, also called opok. The Gorca is fermented spontaneously in large used wooden barrels and remains on the yeast without sulfur for as long as possible. Powerful on the nose with ripe quince and bacon pear, slightly waxy but also with cool and slightly green aromas, thyme and some juniper leaves. Juicy and charming on the palate, crunchy structure with a hint of tannin, a little citrus and quince again, the enamel comes through and takes in the palate, again a waxy touch, an extraordinary wine with great complexity.
