Fiefs de Lagrange Saint Julien 2016

The second wine of Château Lagrange, Les Fiefs de Lagrange is a red wine produced in the Saint-Julien appellation. The 118 hectare vineyard is planted on the gravelly hillsides of the Garonne with silica-gravelly soils on clayey-limestone subsoils. The 2016 vintage of Les Fiefs de Lagrange is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot.

The climatic conditions of the 2016 vintage were marked by a mild and rainy spring, which did not lead to early bud break. Flowering occurred at the best time, during a window of dry and sunny weather. The summer was warm and dry. The harvest took place from the 3rd to the 24th of October.

Dark red in colour with shades of purple, the Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2016 reveals intense fruity fragrances (black cherries, blackcurrant cream) and spicy notes (liquorice). Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2016 is a lively and fresh wine on the palate, dynamic and perfectly balanced.

Solid core of juicy fruit here with currant and stone character. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a bright finish. Second wine of Lagrange. Mar 2017

The 2016 Les Fiefs de Lagrange, which actually comes from 35-year-old vines nowadays, is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot and matured in 20% new oak. It has a very intense bouquet, especially for a Deuxième Vin, with pure black cherry, crème de cassis and crushed violets. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, quite tensile in the mouth and full of joie de vivre. You cannot really go wrong with Les Fiefs, and I bet it will be a great value once released. An open-knit style, with bright anise and açai notes out front, backed by cassis and crushed cherry fruit flavors. Shows a dusting of vanilla on the finish. Apr 2017, James Molesworth

The 2016 Les Fiefs de Lagrange is a delicious second wine from Lagrange. Plump, forward and juicy, the Fiefs is everything a second wine should be. Aromatically expressive and pliant, with midweight structure and impeccable balance, the 2016 is a winner. Apr 2017

Not that concentrated crimson. Light and dry. Respectable and quite dry. Far from heavy. Quite demandingly dry. Apr 2017, Drink: 2023-2030

The 2016 Les Fiefs de Lagrange has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and a nose of warm red and black currants, earth and minerals with a waft of roses. The palate is medium-bodied and plush with plenty of juicy fruit and an earthy finish. Nov 2018,
