Chateauneuf du Pape Les Quartz 2017 BIO
The quartz is always the most brilliant chateau by Clos du Caillou. Naturally biodynamic like everything here. The majority is clearly on Grenache. Only a very small proportion of Syrah goes into this cuvée. Final blend: 85% Grenache, 15% Syrah. Due to its high level of maturity, 2016 is completely unraveled. Of course, spontaneously fermented in wood, like everything here at this biodynamic winery. Quartz is the best floor. It consists of fine sand, interspersed with large stones. Due to the high level of ripeness, the Grenache was harvested 10 days earlier than normal. This happened until mid-September. The result for Quartz is an incredibly fine wine, a calm wine. A wine that represents 2017 with its high aromatic but silky delicacy. Of course, this does not prevent him from having over 15% alcohol, but that does not stop when the seeds are to ripen. Nevertheless, it has a great acidity, the tannins are totally polished and silky, as was the case in the Cotes du Rhone Quartz. Nothing bites, nothing is out. Everything sanded silky. With a very famous length with crushed raspberry from the Grenache. Little strawberry, it's more the year of raspberry and sweet red cherry. This is a Burgundian version of a Chateauneuf du Pape. The whole thing with very high intensity. The aroma keeps coming up. The minerality with the salt, which is almost reminiscent of chalk and limestone, is very long. And yet it stays ultra fine. I have seldom experienced a vintage in which the tannins are abundant, but in such a reserved, gentle, delicious way. So soft, and yet the wine is not fat. Alcohol doesn't dominate at all. Something calm and refined remains. An extremely coherent Chateauneuf du Pape. I had something so brilliant at Tardieu. And if this continues, here at the best producers in Chateauneuf du Pape, it will without a doubt become a very big Chateauneuf vintage. I find this quartz exhilaratingly beautiful.
