Cuvée Da Capo Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2016
This wine consists of the oldest vines in the estate. The plot is planted with vines over 100 years old. About 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 5% Syrah and 5% Cinsault. Of course, this wine is also fermented 100% in whole grapes with all stems and stems, even without cold maceration, which is surprising, because the wine is almost black. The old vines once again provide for a deeper, more black-fruity, more earthy nose, spicy, gingerbread, liquorice, incredibly dense, full and complex, but never fat. A marvel of freshness and delicacy. Everything engaging, extremely charming, dense, deep seasoning rises in the nose. Then come dark red berries, red forest berries, blackberries, elderberries. black earth and a little yellow fruit. The mouth is pure joy, now it is not the expected explosion, but rather the extremely deep, all-overpowering overpowering with great freshness. A da capo, which is significantly more acidic than the reserve, all lining with extreme charm, a lot of lush black fruit, rich sweet black cherry and mulberry, but also red fruit, soft tar, cassis, blackberry, blueberry, but never overwhelming, always fine, always polished. Extreme, but butter-soft tannins - totally polished. Not a blockbuster, but a really big, long, deep wine, with an extremely fine, salty, mineral, stone-shaped finish, lingering for over two minutes. Always reverberating with red, black, yellow fruit and again and again this great salty minerality, so incredibly piquant to the lush deep earthy fruit, intoxicating in its beauty, a wine that is most reminiscent of the biodynamic reserve wine from Vieille Julienne in its earthy, almost dramatic naturalness. In my assortment I have some great chateauuneuf with sensational complexity, unprecedented finesse and dramatic minerality. But to put it in a nutshell: Only the da Capo, Beaucastels homage and the Reserve by Vieille Julienne immediately and everyone convey the overall impression: nothing can be improved, everything fits, this is how a great wine must be! Great fabric in its fantastic elegance and finesse.
