Chateauneuf du Pape Chante le Merle 2017
The Chante Le Merle is something like the classic interpretation of a chateauuf. So here we have a lot of Grenache and an expansion in large oak barrels and some Demi-Muids for up to 18 months. A selection of vines from 80 to 90 years old, so real vieilles vignes. This smells delicate and intense of sloe and red berries. Then comes some pencil and white flowers. The palate continues with polished, strong tannins, soft acidity, but also a fine and balanced fruit. That takes time in the glass or better still on the bottle. Despite all the complexity, this chateauuneuf remains drinkable.
