Château Lafon-Rochet Saint-Estèphe 2016
Spicy, deep, sweet nose. Mulberries in the foreground, black cherry behind, also Amarena. So dense, so spicy, incredibly engaging. This is really Saint Estèphe, but in a very mature form. Blackberry, also a little blueberry, so lush. The mouth is so ripe, sweet and dense. Complex black and red fruit. Very well interwoven. Great length. Licorice, actually more licorice. A little dry, some dark chocolate. Good length. In the nose and in the sweet approach I see him in direct comparison to Phelan Segur and Meyney. Three superb pursuers of Calon Segur. In the pure style and originality of Saint Estèphes and in the classic orientation, however, Phelan Segur is at the forefront, Meyney and Lafon are so chic and so black in their softer density.
