Château La Dominique Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2016
La Dominique is the direct neighbor of Cheval Blanc and Jean Faure. Already 2015 “best ever” La Dominique. That should be even better in 2016. Dense, rich, black cherry nose with fine licorice, some undergrowth. Chic but not off the hook. Quite spicy, staying on earth. The mouth rather extracted, building up a lot of pressure. Black fruit, but also sour cherry. For me, more of an attempt to bring the very successful 2015 into another league with a little more extraction. In my opinion, this more extraction and processing in the basement does not have a particularly good effect. For me, La Dominique 2016 is by no means better than 2015, but rather lagging behind due to the extraction. That was not necessary. Very good wine, but no craze this year.
