Chappaz Grain Pinot Malindzo 2014
This Pinot Noir from Malindzo in Charrat is not a trip to Burgundy. You have to know that before you get the wine in your glass. Filled in a Bordeaux bottle, like most Chappaz products, it is garnet-colored in the glass. The bouquet is very delicately spicy, a bit reminiscent of childish church visits, without evoking associations with the fulfillment of duties. Myrrh spreads here over ripe sour cherry and the wood seasoning. Sloe, rose hip, a little liquorice and a trace of spruce needles. The nose is spicy, smoky and severe. On the palate, the tannins appear soft and finely ground. The acidity is concise, the wine fleshy and full of black fruits. Also figs, some cream. The wine was not aged in the French barrique, but in the larger wood. Here the cool but ripe fruit is in the foreground. Chappaz recommends enjoying the wine for the first 5 years. It is fully there immediately after pouring. A very special kind of Pinot Noir that does not want to imitate anything else, but reflects the origins of Wallis. Must be tried!
