The winery Frescobaldi is located in Tuscany in Italy. A family business that has been producing very high quality wines for several generations. In total the family owns more than 7 vineyards in Tuscany. Besides the famous Castello Nippozzano and Tenuta Castiglioni, the family also owned Castello Pomino, Rèmole, Tenuta Perano, Castel Giocondo and Tenuta Ammiraglia.

Historic wine of the Castello Nipozzano estate, 35 km northeast of Florence. It is the traditional wine from Tuscany: versatile with a clear terroir character.

In 2015 the grapes were able to ripen perfectly due to the long, hot summer and the favourable climate. It was not until the second half of February that the harsh winter became somewhat milder, with the result that the vines began to grow about 10 days later. Spring set in right on time on 21 March. The flowering period was particularly favoured by the sunny mild days, interspersed with rainfall that was below the average of the last 5 years. Summer, the season of fruits, was one of the hottest and sunniest of the last 10 years. In July the temperatures were above 30°C and there was hardly any rain. In the first week of August, the long awaited precipitation finally fell. With the onset of autumn, the air, colours and scents changed all at once and the harvest took place in October.

Tasting notes:

Nipozzano 2016 shines in a clean purple red. On the nose it is intense and complex. At first, there are clearly floral aromas and red berries like raspberry, blackberry and blueberry, followed by toasted and spicy notes like tea, nutmeg and coffee. In the mouth it reveals itself warm, soft and wonderfully fresh, as well as elegant and engaging. Its delicate tannins are well integrated into the structure. The finish is long and persistent.

Grape varieties: Sangiovese, authorised complementary varieties (Malvasia nera, Colorino, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon).
Soil: Sandstone.
Fermentation: stainless steel tank.
Drinking temperature: 15-18°C.
Vinification: Barriques.

This wine goes very well with grilled red meat, roast lamb and cheese.
