Domaine Gourt de Mautens Blanc 2015 BIO

Clairette makes up the majority, but also Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Picardin, Picpoul Blanc and Picpoul Gris, as well as small parts from Marsanne and Roussanne. What does this specialty do in this wine now? Why is it so incredibly mineral? Usually, such a large proportion of Clairette is unable to express something like this white wine. But it is all. It is the single-pole education, the biodynamic processing, the tiny yield of a few little grapes. Well under 500 grams per plant, and then, together with the typical soil and deep roots, a Clairette / Grenache Blanc dominance makes it into a wine with a minerality that is hard to find. But we now know that too: some of the world's largest white wines are made from the low-quality Chenin Blanc grape variety. And so it is here too. The raw material can apparently perfectly reflect the work in the vineyard, the vines and the terroir. In addition, perfect, large burgundy wood. 1200 liter barrels. Last I tried the wine as a 2013. The 2014, like the red wine, is another quantum leap. So incredibly fine. We have such floral elements. A meadow blossom, with beautiful ripe quince, almost Riesling-like playfulness. Then some sea buckthorn. A typical spice from the perfect, not too spicy toasted Burgundy wood. We know that from Coche Dury, from Jean-Marc Roulot. But we also know this from Huber in Germany. The barrel selection is a very important component. In the end, however, the incredibly beautiful limestone minerality prevails. Great salt. And I'm still on the nose. An orgy in minerality, delicacy and unique style. Whatever the red can do in the mouth, the white can almost do. He is not far behind. I don't think I know a winemaker who brings such a perfect couple into the bottle. And Jerome only makes these two wines. Both are perfect and should be perfect. He himself is proud that today he is significantly better in 2014 than in 2009 and 2010. His legend was founded there. Every winemaker greets when he knows I'm going to Jerome. Every winemaker speaks of him with respect and every winemaker knows his wines and loves them. For what you can get for this money, I can assure you that you hardly get a white wine that can hold its own. This is definitely great cinema. And I also deny this wine the highest grade because there are still so many great vintages after that. Although 2014 is a real perfection for white, 2015 has a little more intensity, that's one of the really big white wines in the world!
