Tenuta di Biserno Insoglio del Cinghiale 2018

The 2018 Tenuta di Biserno Insoglio del Cinghiale Campo di Sasso Toscana Magnum is a red wine from Maremma Toscana produced by Tenuta di Biserno that contains petit verdot, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc of 2018 and has an alcohol content of 14%.

This is one of the most beautiful Insoglios I have tasted with lots of blue fruit, such as blueberries, as well as violets. Medium body and firm, silky tannins. Very fine and linear. Syrah, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and Petit Verdot.

Deep ruby red, with a delicate woody note on the nose, which results from the fact that about 45% of the wine is stored for a short time in barrique. The fresh scent of cherries, a dense pithy taste of good structure and length. The tannins are still firm, but by no means aggressive—a wine with a strong personality from Antinori's noble smithy Tenuta di Biserno.

Intense bouquet with notes of dark and red berries. Cassis, blackberry, and red currant. Besides spicy-warm hints. On the juicy palate structure, ripe, easily noticeable tannins and long spicy finish.

Grapes were strictly sorted on a vibrating belt at the cellar. They were then de-stemmed and soft crushed. Fermentation took place for 14 to 21 days at 25-28°C. 10 % of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, the remainder in stainless steel. Soil type is part clay, part Bolgheri conglomerate, and sandy warmer soils for Syrah.

This wine is from a nearby estate, Tenuta Campo di Sasso, comprised of 3 plots of 46 hectares, situated southwest of Biserno, and close to the town of Bibbona. The soils are very different from the ones of Biserno, made up of mostly sand and a little clay. The first vintage was in 2003 - a famously hot summer, which helped both to produce a sumptuous Syrah and to put the wine on the map. The wine is made from 32% Syrah, and the remainder is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.
