Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2017

The domain cultivates 4 hectares in a pure south-facing slope. The soil is rich, deep, white clay over lime. After the manual harvest, the wine is pressed briefly (2 hours) and transferred without pumping to 70% used barrique and 30% stainless steel tanks using gravity and fermented spontaneously. Then expansion over 14 to 16 months, also 70% in used French wood, the rest in stainless steel. 6 months on the lees. Les Clos and Les Preuses are the two superstars of all Grands Crus from Chablis. Les Preuses is a little tighter, more structured and more straightforward. Les Clos is a bit more complex and multiple in the fruit. In its richness and fruity, Les Clos is almost reminiscent of a Meursault. Has a lot more charm than the tight Les Preuses. Here also melon and white peach, apricot, exuding a lot of charm. In the mouth as much pressure as Les Preuses, just not as tight, a little larger - creamy, buttery like a big Meursault. Refined and balanced, with a lot of stone, also flint. But this is less reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc than the 1er Cru, which is very, very typical Chardonnay. But this wine does not want to fade away, infinitely long, great substance. It is also typical of Les Clos that this wine comes across from the Côte de Beaune more like a great burgundy. That is force, a completely different approach than at Les Preuses, but also very impressive. Especially in the big year 2017 with this beautiful structure and rich fruit. I personally prefer the great clarity and structured firmness of Les Preuses, but there are also many lovers who prefer this greater power and multiple complexity of Les Clos. The 2017 Les Clos from Fèvre was voted by James Suckling in the top 5 of the best Burgundies of the year.
