La vieille Julienne Chateauneuf du Pape Les Trois Sources 2017

Expansion in large wood powder. All the wines are completely de-stemmed, but the winemaker Jean Paul Thumb is considering changing that at least in part soon. This is due to the northern locations and sandy soils. In some locations the maturity of the black horses is not fully reached and therefore Jean Paul decided at some point to completely de-staple. 80% ancient Grenache with Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault. Deep, earthy, ripe plum nose plus rich black cherry, some yellow fruit, mango and passion fruit, immense depth, very fine, lush but not fat. Grandiose, a denser and lush version of a Pegau. Fantastic, brings tears to your eyes. The mouth is a big surprise. The wine is so incredibly fine and racy, here too black fruit, natural, earth, black fruit, great praline, milk chocolate, Nutella, "Mon Chéri", racy finish with wood, lots of salt, stone flour, always round and fine, playful, complex. It's astonishing how similar Vieille Julienne is to the wines from Pegau, maybe a little more red cherry, red currant and more enamel, so finally a little more finesse, maybe because all stems and stems have been removed? This wine is one of the grandiose drinking wines of the appellation, in its spice, earthy fullness and grandiose Burgundian fine, red forest berry fruit plus black cherry, it is incredibly enjoyable, is far from modernity, but everything fits: the very great harmony.
